My dog Bruce is no longer with us (he passed away on February 27th 2021) but he definitely was a SuperDog. He was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy and although he was paralysed from his waist down, he lived with this condition for nearly three years. After hearing his diagnosis I was convinced this was an immediate death sentence for him, but I was so wrong. Because this illness was painless, Bruce and I decided to fight it and lived our lives to the fullest. We got him a cart and special harness so he was able to go for walks and enjoy every day like any other dog. He was the love of my life and the sweetest dog you could imagine. He became our local superhero while trotting along in his wheelchair. This horrible disease didn’t stop him from doing his favourite things like swimming and hiking, and he appeared on the calendar for disabled dogs. He was an inspiration and a living proof that being disabled doesn’t mean an end of life. I miss him so much and think of him every single day. That is why I am nominating Bruce for a SuperDog Award.
