Hope

Worker Category Finalist

Hope

Hope worked with clients with neurological conditions for 8 years. She has also worked with prisoners, probationers, mental health, learning disabilities and children who have struggled in mainstream education.

She has an exceptional ability to reach anyone she works with, whether that means a cuddle or playing ball.  She is full of love for everybody no matter their past, and she shows everybody their worth. She has a way of making everybody feel better. It’s something that is innate to her personality.

She has helped prisoners turn their life around and helped clients in their lowest times. Everybody that meets Hope just loves her and I cannot stress what a difference she makes to those she works with. She was invited to the funeral of someone she would lay with after epilepsy left him paralyzed and she was the only thing he showed interest in. She has brought words back to those who have been mute, encouraged people to stand and walk and stopped their never-ending flow of tears.

Hope truly is an inspirational and exceptional Worker Dog who deserves the recognition of a  Naturo SuperDog Award and I feel honoured to own and work alongside her.

Update from Hope’s Mum, Sophie: Honouring Hope – A Life Of Service for Brainy Dogs

Thank you to everyone who voted for Hope. It means more than you will ever know for her to have got this far at this sad time since her cancer diagnosis. To win would be the icing on the cake, but all I truly hope for is that she will be well enough to go to the awards ceremony in London. x

Buy the book: Everybody Needs Hope
Deemed unwanted and ‘good for nothing’ as a working breed by her owners, Hope was saved by the project coordinator for Brainy Dogs, Sophie Wellum-Mayes in 2012. She found Hope’s quiet and placid nature the ideal temperament to help clients in their recovery.  Hope has been integral to the success of Brainy Dogs, interacting with hundreds of clients and showcasing her skills over the years, as the project has gone from strength to strength. Available on Amazon on kindle and paperback

Whilst I never met Hope, her amazing reputation is known locally. She was a truest selfless, loving little being that changed so many peoples lives. I read the inspiring book written by her owner, which was so sincere that I cried. I have 2 wonderful dogs of my own, who certainly are not as well trained as Hope but have been besides my side through some really difficult times. They are a similar age as Hope & similar breed, perhaps that’s why Hopes story has touched me so much. Hope 100% should win this award, she helped to rehabilitate so many people through her love & kindness. Her name & amazing work should live on in her wonderful memory. Well done Sophie you rescued a beautiful little girl & supported her to be kind, loving & amazing beyond words.

I have known Hope since she was a puppy and from the first time I saw her I knew she would go far. Hope loves showing off all her tricks that Sophie has taught her. The clients and staff at Headway adore Hope and she lights up the room when she enters it. She is truly one of a kind and deserves this award without a doubt. I work at Headway and when Sophie brings in hope I would always get to see her and spend time with her. She is so good and loved showing me the tricks she has learnt and always made me smile. When Sophie takes her into the hub the clients are so happy to see her you can see how relaxed she makes the clients and happy too. they all love her she brings so much joy to everyone she is so sensitive to them too. She really deserves this award for her hard work and the happiness she brings to everyone . She is a star in herself

When I first met Hope, I was a little worried as she is a working dog and I was brought up with the * do not touch working dogs!* Hope came to me and let me pet her, I was so happy to meet her, as I had heard such amazing things about Hope and they are all true. Hope is very kind and loving and respectful. She is the sweetest dog you will ever meet and as a worker it is lovely to see Hope with the clients and how much joy she brings to them and how their faces light up when she is around and how hard she works to provide amazing one on one time with all clients.

Listening to all the stories of how Hope has helped so many people over the years makes me so proud to be a part of her life. Hope is the kindest and most gentle dog I’ve ever met, it amazes me how she is able to adapt to the different needs of the clients she helps and how she knows how to behave in a particular manner when she is with different people.
Hope is so deserving of this award for all her years of hard work and the lives she has touched.
