Alfie, my then 2-year-old English springer spaniel, detected that my 9-year-old English springer spaniel, Evie, had cancer in her mouth. From day one of rescuing her, Alfie kept licking her mouth in the same place. So we took Evie to the vets and it turned out that she had a mouth tumour and had to have her top jaw removed. My vet said Alfie had detected the problem and was trying to make us aware. Evie is now nearly 13 years old.
