River is a 1-year-old Belgian Malinois and she is undergoing her training to become my next life-saving assistance dog. She will be taking over the vital role of my fully trained assistance dog when she retires. River is smashing through her training and throwing all stereotypes out of the window that Malinois can’t be assistance dogs and help the disabled. She has already made a great difference in my life in giving me even more independence and major help with my mobility. She is also doing medical alerts for me, allowing me to be safe when an episode hits. River is also smashing the getting items and opening things for me.
She is learning all the roles of being a Multipurpose Assistance Dog (Psychiatric, Autism, physical and medical alert). She’s got big paws to fill but she can do it and will do amazing life-saving work.
